{"id":21630,"date":"2019-10-21T11:42:01","date_gmt":"2019-10-21T11:42:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=21630"},"modified":"2019-10-21T11:42:01","modified_gmt":"2019-10-21T11:42:01","slug":"giving-back-to-abuja-cosgrove-gives-1000-trees-to-capital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=21630","title":{"rendered":"Giving back to Abuja: Cosgrove gives 1000 trees to capital"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By <strong>Francis Kadiri <\/strong><br \/><br \/> After years of partnering with government to deal with housing deficit in Abuja, Real Estate Development Company, Cosgrove, is giving back to the Federal Capital Territory to save it from the ravages of climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Pic-3-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21631\"\/><figcaption>A Cosgrove tree-planting group performing at work<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/1571656135380_Pic-1-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21634\"\/><figcaption>The Chief Executive Officer, Cosgrove, Mr Umar Abdullahi (front row left), leading the team to site while the Chief Technical Officer, Cosgrove, Engr Baba Kalli, makes a point, during the 1000 tree planting event<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A thousand trees are expected to adorn Abuja, courtesy of the company&#8217;s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to commemorate 2019 Customer Week.<br \/><br \/> The activity reflects the environment-friendly policy of the company, which is building over 1000 automated homes in three estates in the FCT.<br \/><br \/> \u201cIt is an effort to give back to society, to serve society and make efforts that will regenerate environmental splendor,&#8221; Chief Executive Officer of Cosgrove, Mr Umar Abdullahi, said<br \/><br \/> \u201cYes, we build the best automated homes, but we also believe in the development of serene environment around a home as it adds value to the structure,\u201d he added.   <br \/> Discussing the environmental benefits of trees, the CEO said, \u201cTrees are a source of benefit to nations; they support economy, absorb harmful gases, support wildlife, improve mental health, offsets environmental impacts and help control flood.\u201d<br \/><br \/> \u201cTrees give off oxygen that we all need to breathe, trees also reduce the amount of storm water runoff, which reduces erosion and pollution in our waterways and may reduce the effects of flooding.\u201d According to him, some species of wildlife depend on trees for habitat, while trees also provide food, protection, and homes for many birds and mammals.<br \/><br \/> \u201cTrees are the oldest living organisms on the planet, not only are they aesthetically beautiful, but they offset environmental impacts and create a healthy, clean environment for us to enjoy.\u201d <br \/> He explained that trees prevent nearly $7 billion in health costs annually by filtering air pollution and preventing more adverse effects, adding that trees increase aesthetic value of homes reducing energy costs. Recent studies, Abdulahi disclosed, show that mature trees planted in a nicely manicured yards could increase a home\u2019s value from one to 19 percent. <br \/><br \/> \u201cIn fact, neighborhood streets with shady trees can be a staggering 6 &#8211; 10 degrees cooler than streets without trees. This not only affects the comfort of the neighborhood but also reduces the area\u2019s energy needs,&#8221; he said.<br \/><br \/> He called on homeowners to consider increasing the value of their homes by planting trees around.
