{"id":21423,"date":"2019-10-10T18:25:37","date_gmt":"2019-10-10T18:25:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=21423"},"modified":"2019-10-10T18:25:37","modified_gmt":"2019-10-10T18:25:37","slug":"seven-arraigned-for-stealing-millions-through-sim-swap-in-kaduna","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=21423","title":{"rendered":"Seven arraigned for stealing millions through SIM swap in Kaduna"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,\u00a0EFCC, Kaduna Zonal Office on Thursday arraigned seven suspected SIM Swap criminals in Kaduna.\u00a0<br \/><br \/> They are:\u00a0Okafor Samuel Obinna, Chigbo Pascal Chidi, Oha Chukwujekwu, Ahamefula Francis Izuchukwu, Ugonna Nelson Owete, Ikenna Henry and Chinyere Aniobi Jessica.<br \/><br \/> They\u00a0were\u00a0arraigned on two counts bordering on conspiracy and obtaining by\u00a0false\u00a0pretence before Justice Mohammed Tukur of the Kaduna State High\u00a0Court.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_4583.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21424\"\/><figcaption>Those arraigned in Kaduna<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br \/><br \/> Operatives of the EFCC had earlier in September,\u00a0arrested six of them.\u00a0They specialize in defrauding innocent Nigerians by using bank details obtained\u00a0through\u00a0their SIM cards  swapped\u00a0on Automated Teller Machine ATM.\u00a0<br \/><br \/> One of the charges reads:\u00a0\u201cThat you,\u00a0Okafor Samuel Obinna, Chigbo Pascal Chidi, Oha Chukwujekwu, Ahamefula Francis Izuchukwu, Ugonna Nelson Owete,\u00a0Ikenna Henry and Chinyere Aniobi Jessica and others now at large sometime in 2019 at Kaduna Judicial Division of the High Court of Justice Kaduna State with the intent to defraud falsely obtained the sum of N2,911,480.00 (Two\u00a0Million\u00a0Nine Hundred and\u00a0Eleven\u00a0Thousand\u00a0Four\u00a0Hundred and\u00a0Eighty\u00a0Naira) from the Diamond Bank (now Access Bank)account of one Abdulrauf Bolaji,\u00a0which was transferred after his SIM swap to several accounts under the pretence that the said sum was transferred by him, which you all knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(1)(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offence Act, 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act.\u201d<br \/><br \/> They pleaded\u00a0\u201cnot guilty\u201d\u00a0to the charges.<br \/><br \/> Following their plea,\u00a0counsel\u00a0for the EFCC,\u00a0S.H.\u00a0Sa&#8217;ad urged\u00a0the court to fix a date for commencement of trial, and for the remand of the defendants in Correctional Service<br \/><br \/> Counsel for the defence,\u00a0Usman Liman, however,\u00a0informed the court that his clients had opted for a\u00a0plea bargain, and intended to change their plea to \u201cguilty\u201d.<br \/><br \/> In a short ruling, Justice Tukur, ordered that\u00a0six of them\u00a0be remanded in Correctional Service custody,\u00a0while Jessica\u00a0should\u00a0be remanded in EFCC custody due to her ill-healtg and fixed October 11, 2019 for \u201chearing on the plea bargain application\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,\u00a0EFCC, Kaduna Zonal Office on Thursday arraigned seven suspected SIM Swap criminals in Kaduna.\u00a0 They are:\u00a0Okafor Samuel Obinna, Chigbo Pascal Chidi, Oha Chukwujekwu, Ahamefula Francis Izuchukwu, Ugonna Nelson Owete, Ikenna Henry and Chinyere Aniobi Jessica.
