{"id":21262,"date":"2019-10-03T21:11:52","date_gmt":"2019-10-03T21:11:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=21262"},"modified":"2019-10-03T21:11:52","modified_gmt":"2019-10-03T21:11:52","slug":"please-release-our-funds-nhis-pleads-with-efcc-as-magu-tasks-management-on-transparency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=21262","title":{"rendered":"Please release our funds, NHIS pleads with EFCC as Magu tasks management on transparency"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The newly appointed executive secretary of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Professor Mohammed Sambo, on Thursday pleaded with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to remit the stolen funds recovered for the institution but still in the custody of the Commission.<br \/><br \/> Sambo made the request, according to an EFCC statement, when he led the management team of NHIS on a visit to the EFCC\u2019s headquarters, Abuja.<br \/><br \/> \u201cIn the past years, the EFCC has helped in the recovery of funds for NHIS; we are also soliciting the Commission for the remittance of the institution\u2019s funds still in custody of the Commission,\u201d Sambo said.\u00a0<br \/><br \/> Explaining why the Scheme needed the recovered funds, Sambo said, \u201cWe have beneficiaries of the NHIS down to remote villages and we need these funds in growing the organization .\u201d<br \/><br \/> According to him, his plan is to restructure the organisation and position it to deliver the mandate for which it was established.<br \/><br \/> Sambo expressed regrets that power-play and corruption have stifled the growth of NHIS.<br \/><br \/> \u00a0\u201cIn the 20-year history of this institution, it has been very difficult for an administration to complete two years in office due to the activities of cabals in the system. My aim is to restore transparency and accountability in the system,\u201d he assured.<br \/><br \/> In his response, the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, expressed confidence in the new NHIS management, adding that the visit will foster stronger relationship with the EFCC.\u00a0<br \/><br \/> The EFCC boss said the reason his agency has held on to the recovered funds, was \u00a0the absence of guarantees for transparency and accountability.
