{"id":20912,"date":"2019-09-24T08:15:28","date_gmt":"2019-09-24T08:15:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=20912"},"modified":"2019-09-24T08:15:28","modified_gmt":"2019-09-24T08:15:28","slug":"a-little-boys-sacrifice-for-father-sad-will-miss-my-friends-but-have-to-help-dad-keep-his-promise-says-el-rufais-son","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=20912","title":{"rendered":"A little boy&#8217;s sacrifice for father: &#8216;Sad, will miss my friends but have to help dad keep his promise&#8217;, says el Rufai&#8217;s son"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By <strong>Philip Yatai<\/strong> (NAN)<br \/><br \/> Governor Nasir El-Rufa\u2019i of Kaduna State on Monday enrolled his six-year-old child, Abubakar, into primary one in Capital School Malali, Kaduna, a public school, in fulfillment of a promise he made in 2017.<br \/><br \/> The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that El-Rufa\u2019i had in a state broadcast in December 2017, promised to enroll his child in a public school when he turns six years.<br \/><br \/> \u201cThe move is part of reforms to revamp public schools in the state to make them more competitive.<br \/><br \/> \u201cWe are determined to fix public education and raise their standards so that private education will become only a luxury.<br \/><br \/> \u201cAs we make progress, we will require our senior officials to enroll their children in public schools.<br \/><br \/> \u201cAnd I will by personal example ensure that my son that will be six years of age in 2019 will be enrolled in a public school in Kaduna State, by God\u2019s grace,\u201d El-Rufa\u2019i had said.<br \/><br \/> Briefing newsmen shortly after he enrolled the child, El-Rufa\u2019i explained that it was a commitment that had been fulfilled.<br \/><br \/> \u201cI made that commitment because I believe that it is only when all political leaders have their children in public schools that we will pay due attention to quality of public education.<br \/><br \/> \u201cI went to a public school like this. In fact, the school I went to is not as good as this one, but here I am, because of the quality teaching I got.<br \/><br \/> \u201cMy intention is to ensure that all our public schools offer quality education, and so we are encouraging all our senior public servants to send their children to public schools.<br \/><br \/> \u201cOnce the public schools are improved to a point they are nearly as good or even better than private schools, no one will waste his money taking his child to private school,\u201d he said.<br \/><br \/> Ummi El-Rufa\u2019i, the mother of the child said: \u201cl am glad that we are able to send a strong message to our leaders and the elites, that we need to start making things work from within our homes.<br \/><\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_20190923_100755-e1569232288685-1068x676.jpg?fit=1024%2C648&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20914\"\/><figcaption><em>Nasir El-Rufa\u2019i of Kaduna State and his wife, Ummi El-Rufa\u2019i in Capital School, Malali, Kaduna, a public school, to enrol their six-year old Abubakar El-Rufa\u2019i into a primary school.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBy the time we start attending public hospitals and send our children to public schools, the system will get better.
