{"id":20619,"date":"2019-09-12T19:51:48","date_gmt":"2019-09-12T19:51:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=20619"},"modified":"2019-09-12T19:51:48","modified_gmt":"2019-09-12T19:51:48","slug":"efcc-is-committed-to-stolen-assets-recovery-magu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=20619","title":{"rendered":"EFCC is Committed to Stolen Assets Recovery &#8211; Magu"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Release<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By <strong>Wilson Uwujaren<\/strong>, Head, Media &amp; Publicity <\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial\nCrimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu on <a href=\"calendar:T2:Thursday, September 12, 2019\">Thursday, September 12, 2019<\/a>\nreiterated the commitment of the Commission to recovery of stolen assets for\nthe development of the nation. <\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Magu disclosed this at a session between him and\nthe Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila and other\ntop executives of the country\u2019s anti-corruption agencies at the National\nAssembly Complex, Abuja.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The EFCC boss who pledged to recover Nigeria\u2019s stolen\nfunds hidden in different parts of the globe, said, &#8220;I am very committed\nto the recovery of stolen funds wherever they are located which should be\nutilised through budgetary system to remedy the harm the theft has\ncaused.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While intimating the lawmakers on the recent\nachievements of the Commission in the fight against cyber fraud, especially the\noutcomes of EFCC\u2019s collaboration with the Federal Bureau of Investigation\n(FBI), Magu said &#8220;the just concluded &nbsp;\u2018Operation Rewired,&#8217; resulted\nin the recovery of the sum of $169,850 as well as N92 million,&#8221;\nadding that lots of expensive cars and several plots of land were also\nrecovered during the operation across Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also pointed at the $40 million worth of jewellery\njust forfeited to the federal government by former Minister of Petroleum\nResources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, stating that the EFCC will assist the\ngovernment to ensure that there was effective utilization of recovered stolen\nfunds.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn line with government\u2019s commitment to maximise\nutilization of recovered funds, some forfeited properties have been allocated\nto government agencies in dire need of office accommodation. I hope that the\nfunds will not just be recovered but be utilised for the benefits of\nNigerians,\u201d Magu said.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He mentioned the agencies that have benefitted\nfrom allocation of recovered assets included: Voice of Nigeria, Pension\nTransitional Arrangement Directorate, North East Development Commission,\nNational Social Investment Office and Fiscal Responsibility Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hon. Gbajabiamila in his remarks said the essence\nof the discussion was to see how public funds and assets recovered can help in\nrelation to budget processes, accountability, transparency and how the country\ncan be developed by putting the funds to better use.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He commended the EFCC and other anti- graft\nagencies on the quantum of recoveries made, adding that the National Assembly\nis there to make the work of the anti-graft agencies easy and also look at\nindicators that will pave ways for collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We hope to get best value for our\nnon-cash assets and also look at the challenges the anti- graft agencies\nare facing, which are one of the pertinent issues to be raised here\n<a href=\"calendar:T5:today\">today<\/a>,&#8221; Gbajabiamila stated<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other legislators present were the Deputy Speaker,\nHouse of Representative, Hon Ahmed Idris Wase,&nbsp;\nas well as the Chairman and Vice Chairman, House Committee on\nAnti-corruption and Financial Crimes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Release By Wilson Uwujaren, Head, Media &amp; Publicity The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu on Thursday, September 12, 2019 reiterated the commitment of the Commission to recovery of stolen assets for the development of the nation.
