The sword-fight beneath flowing robes continues in Kano, where Governor Umaru Ganduje has politely refused overtures for a traditional visit and tour of domain this Thursday by his sparring partner, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II. Ganduje’s spokesman cited security concerns.
\nThe Emirate Council is okay with the decision, it has said in a statement.
\nSaid Ganduje’s spokesman, Malam Abba Anwar: “It is clear to all that, Governor Ganduje is a peace loving leader, who doesn\u2019t toy with safety and security of his people and all other citizens living in Kano\u201d, it read.
\n\u201cFor this reason and as a result of the intelligence report, the state government is not relenting, and it declares Hawan Nassarawa cancelled.
\n\u201cAfter the security meeting the Kano Metropolitan Emirate Council was duly informed about the terrifying intelligence report and the cancellation of Hawan Nassarawa (as the visit and Durbar is described in Kano).\u201d
\nThe Acting Secretary to the Emirate, Alhaji Abba Yusuf, in his own statement said: \u201cIn view of the cancellation of all the durbars, the emirate has set aside June 7 for a prayer session to mark the 5th year remembrance of the late emir, Ado Bayero, and 5th year anniversary of the present emir\u201d.
\nEmir Sanusi has been indicted over an alleged N3.4billion financial misdemeanour in a probe by a Kano government commission against corruption.
\nJust weeks ago, in a move interpreted as a push back from the Governor over the emir’s alleged support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last governorship election, the Kano government created four new emirates out of Kano, effectively whittling down the domain, finances and powers of Sanusi.
