{"id":17178,"date":"2019-04-22T18:20:48","date_gmt":"2019-04-22T18:20:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=17178"},"modified":"2019-04-22T18:20:48","modified_gmt":"2019-04-22T18:20:48","slug":"10-die-30-injured-in-face-off-between-gombe-boys-brigade-nscdc-official","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=17178","title":{"rendered":"10 die, 30 injured in face-off between Gombe Boys\u2019 Brigade, NSCDC official"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By <strong>Chima Azubuike<\/strong>, Gombe (<strong>The PUNCH<\/strong>)<br \/>\nTen persons reportedly died and 30 others injured in Gombe in an incident involving the Boys\u2019 Brigade drawn from St Peter\u2019s Anglican Church, Madaki; two parishes of ECWA Church in Bamusa and Barunde; and an official of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.<br \/>\nThe NSCDC official was identified through his ID card as\u00a0ASC II Adamu Abubakar, and he was reportedly driving a Honda car with registration No.\u00a0 AS 385 GME.<br \/>\nHe was allegedly with an unidentified male companion. Both of them died in the incident, Police and eyewitnesses said.<br \/>\nThe incident reportedly happened during a night procession to Sabon-Layi Area of Gombe Metropolis, where the church members were expected to celebrate Easter Monday.<br \/>\nThe Gombe Police Public Relations Officer, SP Mary Malum, confirmed this to our correspondent; noting,\u00a0\u201cThere are 10 death cases and 30 injured victims receiving treatment at the state specialist hospital and other private health institutions.<br \/>\n\u201cEight out of the 10 dead persons were members of the Gombe State Boys\u2019 Brigade, while the other two were the driver of the car and his friend.\u201d<br \/>\nHowever, while the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Gombe State, Dr. Godwin Omiko, described the incident as an accident, eyewitness said it was rather a direct confrontation between the Anglican and ECWA churches\u2019 Boys\u2019 Brigades and the\u00a0NSCDC official.<br \/>\nAnother eyewitness at the scene of the incident,\u00a0Michack Michael, confirmed that some ECWA Boys\u2019 Brigade who survived the incident immediately fell on the salon car\u2019s driver and killed him.<br \/>\nMichael said, \u201cImmediately we noticed the vehicle knocking people down, we immediately held the driver and his passenger and killed them.<br \/>\n\u201cWe wanted to burn the car, but we were stopped.\u201d<br \/>\nSurvivors at the male surgical ward confirmed the attack. One of them, identified simply as Godwin, noted that the NSCDC official returned after he had been allowed to pass and \u201cleveled\u201d members of his group.<br \/>\nAnother survivor, David, said, \u201cThis is not the first time we are embarking on such procession in the wee hours of the night, as we had done it in previous festive seasons.<br \/>\nAnother eyewitness, Zakaria Ibrahim, blamed the Civil Defence officer for taking the law into his hands, saying, \u201cthe man deliberately came to kill us.\u201d<br \/>\nThe victims were said to have been rushed to the Gombe State Specialist Hospital as soon as\u00a0 the incident happened.<br \/>\nGombe State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Kennedy Ishaya, condemned the incident.<br \/>\n\u201cIt is rather unfortunate that this type of attack was recorded.
