{"id":16673,"date":"2019-04-09T08:04:11","date_gmt":"2019-04-09T08:04:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=16673"},"modified":"2019-04-09T08:04:11","modified_gmt":"2019-04-09T08:04:11","slug":"efcc-arrests-ticket-racketeers-as-many-now-prefer-train-rides-between-abuja-and-kaduna","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=16673","title":{"rendered":"EFCC arrests ticket racketeers as many now prefer train rides between Abuja and Kaduna"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the volume of traffic soaring on the Abuja-Kaduna rail line on account of safety concerns on the road between the two cities, some characters are exploiting the situation to line up their pockets by running a racket of the tickets on that route.<br \/>\nThe Abuja-Kaduna highway has become notorious for criminal activities, especially kidnapping, forcing the Police to initiate a special operation, tagged Operation Puff Adder, to stem the tide.<br \/>\nBut for some of the racketeers using the upsurge of traffic on the rail line, they will have their day in court.<br \/>\nA statement by the spokesman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Tony Orilade, the\u00a0Abuja Zonal Office on Saturday, April 6, 2019 arrested five suspected train ticket racketeers.<br \/>\nThey include, Clement Zakka, Udim Sunday Samson, Adams Danladi, Otitomoni Omobolanle and Hassan Dauda.<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16674\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16674\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-16674\" src=\"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/ABUJA-TRAIN-RACKETEERS-300x147.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"147\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16674\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The alleged racketeers<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nThe Commission swung into action after receiving an intelligence report alleging that some group of people at the Idu and Kubwa train stations have been racketeering train tickets making it difficult for passengers to have access to tickets and further sabotaging government efforts in ensuring easy transportation across the country.<br \/>\nThe suspects were arrested during a sting operation at the stations.<br \/>\nThey will soon be charged to court.<br \/>\nIn the same vein, operatives of the Kaduna Zonal Office of the EFCC, on Sunday, April 7, 2019 acting on intelligence report, also arrested ticket racketeers at the Rigasa Train Station.<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16675\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16675\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-16675\" src=\"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/20190408_123541-300x195.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"195\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16675\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Two other alleged racketeers<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nInvestigations revealed that some members of staff of the station in connivance with some touts were defrauding unsuspecting travellers and selling train tickets at a higher rate.
