Yakubu Dogara, is returning as a federal lawmaker for the fourth time, but his opposite number in the House of Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has fallen to a fellow medical doctor, Dr. Ibrahim Oloriegbe, who with a wide margin of over 50,000 votes.<br \/>\nBut for Saraki&#8217;s deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, it was a happy fifth time around as the huge infrastructural developments he attracted to his senatorial district spoke for him at the Polling units.<br \/>\nEkweremadu polled 86,088 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mrs Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who scored 15,187 votes.<br \/>\nThe Returning Officer, Prof Douglas Nwagbo of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) announced the results in Awgu on Sunday.<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_12280\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12280\" style=\"width: 286px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12280\" src=\"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/download-25.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"286\" height=\"176\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-12280\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ekweremadu.<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nThe\u00a0News Agency of Nigeria\u00a0reports that with the victory, Ekweremadu holds the senatorial mandate for the 5th\u00a0time.<br \/>\nReacting to the development, the deputy senate president said he was humbled by the result because it was the first time a senator would be voted the fifth time in Nigeria.<br \/>\nDogara, against the odds of the ruling APC stacked against him polled a total of 73,609 votes to defeat his closest rival Dalhatu Kantana, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate who trailed him with 50,708 votes.<br \/>\nThe returning officer, Professor Muhammed Abdulhamid, declared Dogara, the winner at the Zwall collation centre in Tafawa Balewa local government on Sunday.<br \/>\nHe applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the elections<br \/>\nSaraki lost his bid to Oloriegbe, who is now the nemesis of Saraki, once ran against him in 2011 and believed his victory was stolen by then powerful \u2018Governor Bukola Saraki\u2019.<br \/>\nOloriegbe, a medical doctor like Saraki, polled a total of 123, 808 votes to defeat Saraki who scored 68, 994 votes in the four local governments of Kwara Central Senatorial District.<br \/>\nThe result of the election was announced by the Senatorial District Returning Officer, Prof Olatunbosun Owoyomi from the University of Ilorin.<br \/>\nIn Asa local government, Oloriegbe polled a total of 15, 932 votes to defeat Saraki that scored 11, 252 votes.<br \/>\nThe APC candidate also got 30, 014 votes in Ilorin East local government to 14, 654 polled by his PDP rival in the Senatorial race.<br \/>\nIn Ilorin West, stronghold of Sen. Saraki, Oloriegbe polled 51, 531 votes to defeat the senate president with 30, 075 votes.<br \/>\n\u201cIn the past 15 years, our society has been in the grip of people who do not share our common values and heritage. They are dealers whose concerns are at variance with the people\u2019s aspirations. They are leaders with inordinate appetite for wealth acquisition. They are political voyagers and power merchants\u201d\u2014Oloriegbe<br \/>\nThe situation was the same in Ilorin South where the APC candidate floored the Senate President with 26, 331 votes as against 13, 031 votes garnered by Saraki.<br \/>\nThe News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), also reports that APC\u2019s candidates won the the House of Representatives seats in Asa\/Ilorin West and Ilorin South\/Ilorin East Federal Constituencies<br \/>\nIn the Presidential election, APC maintained the lead in 14 out of the 15 local governments already announced.<br \/>\nNAN reports that PDP only led in Oke Ero local government with 6,242 votes to 6,079 votes polled by APC.<br \/>\nOloriegbe, was a member of the Action Congress of Nigeria(ACN) when he ran against Saraki in 2011 . In his campaign bio-sketch, Oloriegbe believed he was robbed by the court, against \u2018the wishes of many Kwarans\u201d.<br \/>\nAfter the loss, he remains one of the few men standing against the reign and style of Saraki regime in Kwara.<br \/>\nHe was the majority leader at the Kwara State House of Assembly between 1999 \u2013 2003.<br \/>\nOloriegbe was born in Ilorin by parents with Ilorin pedigree, an important factor that underlined the campaign in the state.<br \/>\nHe attended Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, where he studied medicine and has had a wide practice both locally and internationally.<br \/>\nAs Senator-elect, he has promised to make a difference in his senatorial district:<br \/>\n\u201cIn the past 15 years, our society has been in the grip of people who do not share our common values and heritage. They are dealers whose concerns are at variance with the people\u2019s aspirations. They are leaders with inordinate appetite for wealth acquisition. They are political voyagers and power merchants. They don\u2019t share our Islamic values and culture of leadership being a trust that will be accounted for to Allah the Creator of the universe. Hence they cannot give what they don\u2019t have<br \/>\n\u201cWhat is the alternative? Ilorin people need one of them. They deserve a leader who has deep and good understanding of the Islamic culture and its value system, which defines us as a people. Ilorin Emirate deserves a leader who can combine vast international exposure with deep knowledge of our cherished self-identity as we collectively strive for solutions to our numerous challenges. Such a leader should be accessible to the young, the old and all strata of the community.
