{"id":13053,"date":"2018-10-29T20:00:41","date_gmt":"2018-10-29T20:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=13053"},"modified":"2018-10-29T20:00:41","modified_gmt":"2018-10-29T20:00:41","slug":"many-killed-as-nigerian-soldiers-on-monday-open-fire-on-shiite-protesters-in-abuja","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=13053","title":{"rendered":"Many killed as Nigerian soldiers On Monday open fire on Shiite protesters in Abuja"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Another devastating violence has broken out in Karu, a densely populated suburb of the Nigerian capital Abuja.<br \/>\nWitnesses told PREMIUM TIMES at least 16 people have been killed and scores wounded after Shiite protesters attempted to break a barricade of Nigerian soldiers around the flyover in Karu.<br \/>\nWhile some of the deceased died after being rammed by cars driven by panic drivers, most of them were hit by Nigerian soldiers\u2019 bullets, which they reportedly rained on the protesters and passersby indiscriminately, witnesses said.<br \/>\n\u201cThey have killed about 16 to 22 people,\u201d a witness in the neighbourhood told PREMIUM TIMES Monday evening. \u201cBodies are everywhere, they are everywhere without anyone even attempting to evacuate them.\u201d<br \/>\nThe witness said soldiers were responsible for most of the deaths, attributing only about four to persons rammed by speeding vehicles or an elderly woman who fell and hit her head against the median while scampering for safety.<br \/>\n\u201cYes, the soldiers were killing the people, they said they wanted to break their barricade near the overhead bridge in Karu,\u201d another witness told PREMIUM TIMES separately. \u201cI cannot say how many people were killed, but they are so many and bodies still on the main road and streets.\u201d<br \/>\nThe witness also said the protesters were not armed with guns and live ammunition, saying \u201conly the soldiers were carrying guns.\u201d<br \/>\nThe first witness told PREMIUM TIMES about three dead bodies that were taken to a Muslim burial ground in Karu were rejected because they were suspected as being Shiite members.<br \/>\nBy Premium Times<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Another devastating violence has broken out in Karu, a densely populated suburb of the Nigerian capital Abuja.
