{"id":1164,"date":"2017-03-15T14:56:02","date_gmt":"2017-03-15T14:56:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=1164"},"modified":"2017-03-15T14:56:02","modified_gmt":"2017-03-15T14:56:02","slug":"stop-this-mindless-bloodbath-by-herdsmen-moro-tells-ortom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=1164","title":{"rendered":"Stop this mindless bloodbath by herdsmen, Moro tells Ortom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Michael Jegede, Abuja.<br \/>\nThe immediate past Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro, has called\u00a0on Governor Samuel Ortom to take urgent steps to stop the dreadful\u00a0senseless killings of the people of Benue State by suspected Fulani\u00a0herdsmen.<br \/>\nMoro, a Benue State \u2013 born politician, made the call against the\u00a0backdrop of the fresh attack unleashed by armed herdsmen on a Tiv\u00a0community, Mkgovur village in Buruku Local Government Area.<br \/>\nThe renewed onslaught by the marauding Fulani herdsmen in the area\u00a0reportedly left about ten persons dead with several others injured.<br \/>\nThe former Minister, in a statement he personally signed, opined that\u00a0\u201cthe government in Benue State is failing in the elementary\u00a0responsibility of protecting the lives and property of the Benue\u00a0people.\u201d<br \/>\nComrade Moro stated that \u201clamentations of failure of the Federal\u00a0Government and security agencies to curb the excesses of the rampaging\u00a0Fulani herdsmen in the company of the Benue Sate Commissioner of\u00a0Police and other security agencies, was a classical display of incapacity on the part of the Benue State Government, under the\u00a0leadership of Governor Ortom as the Chief Security Office of the State\u00a0whose duty it is to provide security for Benue People.\u201d<br \/>\nHe averred that it was the height of arrogance, irresponsibility and\u00a0insensitivity for Amadu Auta, representing Ardo Buruku (Fulani chiefs\u00a0in the area) to justify the killings of Benue people on the killing of three cows even in the presence of the Governor and security agents.<br \/>\nHe further said: \u00a0\u201cYesterday it was Agatu that was under siege but\u00a0today it is either Guma or Buruku or Logo or Kwande or Ushongo and\u00a0that soon the whole of Benue State would be overwhelmed by the Fulani\u00a0herdsmen. The prevailing constant fear of Benue people of imminent possible attacks and killings of the people can no longer be taken as\u00a0a normal way of life. We cannot pretend not to know that people are\u00a0suffering and dying, virtually on a daily basis. This bloodshed must\u00a0stop before Benue people resort to self help.\u201d<br \/>\nMoro urged the Benue State government to, as a matter of urgency,\u00a0evolve a comprehensive all-inclusive roadmap towards resolving the\u00a0menace of the Fulani herdsmen in Benue State, while stressing the need for the immediate passage and signing into law of the Bill on grazing that has been laid in the Benue State House of Assembly for upward of\u00a0year now.<br \/>\n\u201cIf the Benue State Government can pass a needless Benue StateChieftaincy law with a jet speed, why is it this difficult for the same government to pass the grazing law which the governor himself\u00a0claims will offer solution to the farmers-herdsmen impasse in BenueState which has claimed and continue to claim many lives and\u00a0property,\u201d he queried<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Michael Jegede, Abuja.
