Grief and fear have deepened across several communities in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State following a fresh report that the remains of 25 people abducted during last month\u2019s mass attack have been recovered.<\/p>\n
The reported discovery\u00a0has renewed anguish\u00a0among families who\u00a0have spent nearly\u00a0four weeks waiting\u00a0for news of\u00a0relatives taken during\u00a0Friday prayers on\u00a0August 21.<\/p>\n
According to a\u00a0report published on\u00a0Wednesday, September 16, residents of Dekara, Kpenya, Sabon-Gida\u00a0and Gidan-Zana\u00a0were reportedly alerted\u00a0by their abductors\u00a0to come and\u00a0identify and retrieve\u00a0the decomposing remains.<\/p>\n
The bodies were\u00a0subsequently said to\u00a0have been given\u00a0a mass burial\u00a0in a nearby\u00a0bush.<\/p>\n
However, the reported recovery has not been independently verified by the Niger State Government or the police, and the identities of those allegedly killed could not immediately be established. National Update, which reported the recovery, also noted that the exact circumstances\u00a0 of the deaths remained unclear.<\/p>\n
