There are reports that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is in the United States after years of absence that led to stories he had been barred from there for alleged financial crimes.
When Everyday.ng reached his media aide, Mazi Paul One, he promised to issue a statement to clear the air over media reports.
Daily Trust had earlier quoted him as denying that Atiku had travelled out of the country.
“You know what the social media can do. You know the social media for what they are now. It is not true. His Excellency hasn’t gone anywhere,” he told Daily Trust.
But the United States-based online newspaper, TheWill continues to maintain Atiku is in the capital of the country with updates on its earlier report.
It reports: “Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the PDP is in Washington DC, USA, THEWILL can authoritatively report.
“Atiku, who had previously been barred by the US government arrived Thursday with his advisers including Mustapha Chike-Obi, the former CEO of AMCON.
“Despite denials by Atiku’s aides in Nigeria dismissing his presence in the United States as fake news, THEWILL can authoritatively report that he arrived on Thursday in his private jet.
“THEWILL can also report that former President Olusegun Obasanjo a key supporter of the candidate, had gone ahead to the states to ensure his safe passage.
“Our impeccable source, who is familiar with the development said Atiku’s trip is being closely guarded because it is sensitive. The source added that Senate President, Bukola Saraki also made the secretive trip.”
