The intricate politics of Kano State played out on the floor of the House of Representatives Thursday when an attempt by a member,  Hon. Aliyu Madaki, to get the House to investigate the detention of a former commissioner, Dr. Yunusa Dangoni, under former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, led to a startling revelation that Dr. Dangoni is being detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) because he is associated with someone sending threats of kidnap to female secondary schools in Kano.

Madaki, a known supporter of Kwankwaso, brought a motion complaining about the abuse of the constitution by the DSS which arrested one Dangoni for weeks without taking him to court, nor granting him access to his lawyers and family.

According to him, this was a clear disregard of his human right.

But another lawmaker, believed to be a supporter of Governor Umar Ganduje, Hon. Aminu Suleiman, countered and told the House that the circumstances surrounding Dangoni’s arrest bordered on alleged threat of terrorism in Kano.

According to him, an individual was apprehended for sending text messages to secondary schools with the threat of abduction, but after interrogation, it was alleged that a former commissioner was arrested to aid the investigation.

But worried over the twists and turns over the detention, Speaker Yakubu Dogara noted the speculative nature of the debate and called for an investigation to ascertain the facts for the House to debate from an informed position.

It was gathered Thursday that another dimension to the arrest of the former commissioner was fresh information that a former soldier was paid some amount of money to threaten an unnamed man.

On investigation, according to a source, the fund transferred to the soldier’s account emanated from a former state government official.
