When it rains, it pours.

Resident doctors have abandoned their duty posts for a strike over money as patients groan; the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have kept public universities shut with anxious parents and student hoping for a call-off; non-academic staff of universities have messed up the mix.

Now other health workers want to completely ground public hospitals next Wednesday.

The Joint Health Sector Union, JOHESU, says government is not meeting the demands it made since 2014.

Members want payment of arrears of specialist allowances and the upgrade of their members due for promotion..

The federal government has been negotiating on all fronts with workers in different sectors of the body polity, conceding to release funds in the face of dwindling income and a humongous monthly wage bill.

In the States, it is no better.

In Zamfara, workers are at home; while in Kogi and others they are bracing up for a showdown with States chief executives, who have lost workers’ trust on account of alleged mismanagement of the public till.
