Again, Govt wants identity of witnesses against Dasuki hidden
After pushing to get the trial of former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki, conducted in secret, the federal government Wednesday brought a motion to a Federal High Court in Abuja asking that the identities of witnesses against the former intelligence czar be shielded.
Dasuki has been in government custody for months as his trial continues to drag without a substantial commencement. He is facing charges in different courts ranging from illegal possession of firearms, fraud, to money laundering.
On Wednesday, again, the trial was pushed forward for two weeks to allow Dasuki’s lawyer study the new motion from government.
The government lawyers also want to make the record of proceedings sealed and inaccessible to the generality of the public.
The motion said that most of those pencilled to give evidence against Dasuki were security personnel who are afraid for their safety, should they testify against him.
