Niger State lawmakers unhappy over leakage of commissioner-nominees before House got it

Must read

Legislators in the Niger State House of Assembly were Thursday unhappy that a 30 persons list of nominees to be screened to head ministries as commissioners for the state was seen on social media by the public, before it got to them.

While they were not able to tell the source of the leakage, they postponed deliberations on the list and that of a fresh set of Special Advisers to Governor Umaru Bago until the next legislative day, next week.

On the list of commissioner-nominees read out by the House Speaker, Alhaji Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, were six women that included Elizabeth Saba, a former chairperson of local government during the administration of late Governor Abdulkhadir Kure; daughter of late Senator Dr Idris Kuta, Hadiza Kuta; Fatima Adamu, Hajia Titi Auta, Binta Mamman and Hadiza Mohammed.

The lawmakers went into an executive session after the house had adjourned the days sitting- the last for the week.

The emergency sitting started at 5.41pm and not all the legislators were present.

Members who spoke on condition of anonymity described the leakage of the list before getting to the house as against parliamentary procedures.
