Nigeria first, even in the midst of perceived injustice

Must read

By Anu Shoremekun,

My interractions with some fellow citizens in the days following the presidential election and the recent inauguration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the 16th President of Nigeria has elicited great consternation. Some unpatriotic Nigerians have chosen to transfer their anger over the outcome of the presidential election to our dear innocent country (Nigeria), wishing her evil and doom because their preferred candidate is not the one in the saddle.

This to me and any right thinking Nigeria is condemnable to say the least. To those engaging in this distasteful journey, they should be reminded that you must have a country first before a government. Therefore, wishing Nigeria evil accords no gain to anybody, not even their preferred candidates.

For those who have fled or are planning to flee the country in what is now called the Japa syndrome and therefore wish Nigeria ill fate, it is pertinent to remind them that there is no where like home. Recent unrest in some foreign nations has shown how people desperately seek repatriation in times of crisis.

Suffice also to remind Nigerians that economic troes, poverty, insecurity, poor health sector and decrepit infrastructure doesn’t visit its adversity on people on the basis of tribe, ethnicity, religion or political leanings. In like manner, when a country succeeds, its populace are the ultimate beneficiaries.

Compatriots, while candidates and parties at the last presidential election are still at the Tribunal, we must keep wishing the country success regardless of who is in the saddle at the moment. We must constantly remind ourselves at all times that the success of Nigeria is indeed a win for us all.

God bless Nigeria!
