Adeboye, RCCG elated; others call for prayers for abducted Anglicans

Elated members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God continued through Thursday to thank God following confirmation of the release of eight of their members by abductors in Nigeria’s new capital of abduction, Kaduna.

Their release comes as a cacophony of prayers were raised for the release of four members of the Anglican Church, Zaria kidnapped in the same state.

Confirmation of the release of the RCCG members came via a Tweet by Head of the church, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye.

He tweeted: “Today I got the exciting news that our brethren who were in captivity of kidnappers have all been released and taken to the hospital for checkup and tests. Glory be to Jesus.”

A prayer sighted across many platforms, among others, for their release and comfort for the family of a dead driver, and recovery for the injured reads: “PRAYER ALERT

“Some members of the St. Andrew’s Church GRA Zaria have been abducted.

“The Church driver was shot dead while 4 persons …were abducted.

“Several were wounded and are under medical care.

“Please pray.”

A busload of members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) were reportedly attacked exactly two weeks ago by gunmen in Kaduna State.

The victims were kidnapped during the attack on their way to Kachia in preparation for the church’s ‘Let’s Go a Fishing’ Easter programme, according to reports.

Head, Media and Public Relations of RCCG, Pastor Olaitan Olubiyi, confirmed the abduction then, declining further comments.

Other sources said the evangelists were on their way to Kafanchan, while a Facebook comment by one Mr Eje Kenny Faraday, read that he “narrowly escaped being a victim,” had broken the news on his Facebook wall with the photograph of the empty bus around 7.00 p.m. that Friday.

“All passengers in the bus (were) kidnapped along Kachia Road, Km 63 from Kaduna,” he posted on his Facebook wall.
