Just three days after light was restored in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, the ancient city of Kanuri civilisation has been thrown into darkness, again, by Boko Haram insurgents
According to Optimum Times, quoting the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the company suffered the fresh devastating blow in power transmission in Maiduguri as Boko Haram Terrorists Saturday, once again bombed two high tension power transmission towers along Maiduguri-Damaturu 330KV line.
The latest incident occurred just three days after TCN restored light in Maiduguri after Maiduguri was thrown into two months blackout following similar bombing of three transmission towers: T159, T160 and T161 on January 26, 2021.
The insurgents Saturday, March 27 at about 5.56 a.m. bombed towers: T152 and T153 just as TCN and Borno state government were intensifying efforts at rebuilding the earlier three towers destroyed by Boko Haram.
It would be recalled that while work was ongoing on the temporary transmission line in the month of February, 2021, through which power supply was restored in Maiduguri and its environs, operational vehicle wheeled on the terrorists landmine which explosion wounded five out of the TCN engineers working on the line.
They were subsequently rushed to the hospital following the injuries sustained.
TCN in a statement regretted that two towers along the Damaturu – Maidugiri 330kV Transmission Line has again been vandalized by insurgents, “after it had made concerted effort and restored power to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on 24th March, 2021, two months after the first incident.”
“This time, the insurgents chain bombed two other towers; T152 and T153 along the same line route of the other incident”, notes the statement by the TCN General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah.
She however, assured that TCN would continue to do all that it can to ensure power supply is restored to the affected areas.
