Must read

President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, is shocked and sad at the news of the passing on of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari.
Also shocked is the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) which President, Dr. Samson ‘Supo Ayokunle, in a letter of condolence wrote:
“It was with a rude shock but with submission to the will of the Almighty God that the Association received the news of the demise of your Chief of Staff, Mallam Abba Kyari, OON as a result of complications arising from the Novel COVID-19 also known as coronavirus.
“We are particularly sad that he contracted the virus while on duty abroad.
“He has thus sacrificed his life in the course of service to his motherland. That spoke much of his patriotic devotion to greatness of our nation.
“We know this was a big blow to your administration, especially your kitchen cabinet.
“Our prayer to the Lord is that he grants you, his family and the presidency in general the fortitude to bear the loss. ‘The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away, glory be to the name of the Lord.’(Job 1: 21)
“May the Lord heal all others who are lying sick as a result of the attack of this ruthless virus. May the Lord grant our nation reprieve from the scourge of this virus very soon so that we might be able to pick up our lives and businesses again in Jesus’ name.
“Be well assured that we at the Christian Association of Nigeria will continue to pray for you for enhanced wisdom and patience to lead a great country like this.”
The Senate President also condoled with President Muhammadu Buhari over the loss of Mallam Kyari, whom he described in a statement by his spokesman, Mr. Ola Awoniyi, as a very competent, dedicated and loyal aide, who was a pillar in his administration.
Lawan extended his heartfelt sympathy to the Government and people of Borno State over the passage of a great son of the state.
“He was a man of deep convictions and courage who understood his role and performed it with uncommon dedication and effectiveness.
“He shared the values of President Buhari and his passion for the emancipation of the poor in Nigeria and the all-round development of the country for the benefit of all its people.
“Mallam Kyari played his role well and will always be appreciated, more so now that the Almighty Allah has called time on his earthly sojourn,” Lawan said.
The Senate President prayed that Allah will accept his soul into Aljannah and comfort all who have been left in grief by his passage.
Former Senate President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, also joined the battery of prominent individuals condoling with President Muhammadu Buhari over the death of Kyari.
In a letter to Buhari, Any in wrote: “It is with a deep sense of loss that I join other Nigerians to condole with your Excellency on the death of your Chief of Staff, Mallam Abba Kyari.
“Mallam Abba Kyari was a hardworking, loyal and dependable Chief of Staff who discharged his duties with uncommon commitment and diligence. Every wellmeaning person who encountered him in office came away with conclusion that he knew his onions and went about his duties with candour. Loosing such a reliable aide at such a trying time as this cannot be an easy experience for your Excellency. This is a huge loss not only to your Excellence and Mallam Abba Kyari ‘s immediate family but also to the Federal Government, Borno State and the many friends and associates of Mallam Abba Kyari.
“As I join the rest of Nigerians to pray for the repose of the gentle soul of Mallam Abba Kyari, I pray also that Almighty God will grant your Excellency the strength to bear this huge lose. May God continue to guide and protect you as you continue your worthy services to our dear country to the glory of Almighty God.
“Please accept, your Excellency, my heartfelt condolences.”
Earlier, All Progressives Congress National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, described Kyari, as a man of accomplishment whose death due to the raging coronavirus pandemic should not be in vain.
He said although the nation is made sad and mourning, she use his demise and those of others fallen by the virus to strengthen our resolve in fighting the pandemic.
His condolence message is contained in a statement signed by him and released by his Media Office on Saturday in Lagos.
Asiwaju Tinubu said: “I’m deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Malam Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to the President. He was an extremely able, loyal and talented man who dedicated his considerable skills to the success of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Whatever someone will try to say about Mallam Kyari, the words will prove insufficient. His influence in government and throughout the land was substantial and profound. He will surely be missed.  My deepest condolences go to President Buhari, the people of NIgeria and especially the family of Mallam kyari over this tragic loss. May Almighty Allah comfort the president and the Kyari family at this difficult moment.
“This death came at a time the government is working assiduously to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. We must not allow the passing away of Mallam Kyari and the other Nigerians who have lost their lives to this terrible disease to be in vain.  Although we are today made sad, we must also use this moment to strengthen our resolve in fighting the pandemic.
“Let us rededicate ourselves to obeying the public health measures such as physical distancing so that we may defeat the contagion and not fall to it. While we must maintain spatial distance from one another we must yet come closer in the spirit of brotherly compassion and national purpose in order to defeat the threat we now face.
“Mallam Kyari was a man of accomplishment. We know not why Almighty Allah has taken him at this time. Allah’s will is supreme and there is no questioning it. Yet we must learn from Mallam Kyari’s passing. We must honor the departed by doing all we can to defeat the virus so that we safeguard the health of the nation that Mallam Kyari loved so deeply. .
“To the family of Mallam Kyari, may Almighty Allah support and comfort them during this painful moment. My condolences are also with Governor Babagana Zulum, the government and people of Borno State over the loss of their extraordinary son.
“I pray that Allah Subuhana Watahalah grant the soul of our beloved Mallam Kyari eternal rest and admit him to Aljana Firdaus.”
