PRINCIPLES OF ENGAGEMENT IN SPIRITUAL WARFARE
By Mathias Echioda
And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in
Gen. 7:16
Devotional
The ark was ready, the animals were gathered, and Noah’s family had obeyed God’s word. Then Scripture says something profound — “The Lord shut him in”. It wasn’t Noah who locked the door; it was God. Sometimes, what feels like a door slamming shut is God sealing you in for safety and separation.
You may feel stuck, restricted, or excluded; but what if the shut door is God’s preservation? What if He’s protecting you from what’s outside, while preparing you for what’s ahead? When God shuts a door, it’s not rejection – it’s redirection or divine insulation.
This moment in Genesis illustrates divine sovereignty. God doesn’t just call us to obedience; He secures the outcome. Being “shut in” by God isn’t punishment but providence. It’s God taking responsibility for the protection of His promise. Much like the seal of the Holy Spirit (Eph. 1:13), God secures what He commissions.
If you feel confined or shut in, trust the One who holds the key. Stay faithful in the space He’s sealed. Don’t try to pry open doors He’s closed for your safety. Some shut doors are divine doors of mercy: keeping judgment and destruction out while grace works within.
Prayer
Father, when You shut me in, help me not to struggle against it. Let me trust Your protection and providence. Teach me to rest in Your timing and to see divine purpose even in closed spaces. In Jesus’ name, I pray!
