Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, mother of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has passed away.

The news of her death was announced on Friday by her grandson, Bello El-Rufai, via a social media post.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. From Allah we came and to Him we shall return. I wish to inform the public of the passing of my grandmother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who died a few hours ago,” the statement read.

Further details emerging from multiple reports indicate that the late matriarch died on Friday in Cairo, Egypt, where she had been residing with her son and reportedly receiving medical care.

She is survived by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

The family described her as a devoted mother and prayed for the repose of her soul, urging well-wishers to remember her in prayers.

Condolences have continued to pour in from prominent figures, including Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, who described her as a woman of “rare grace, moral clarity, and quiet strength,” noting that her life was defined by compassion, humility, and service to humanity.

Her passing comes amid ongoing legal developments involving her son, Nasir El-Rufai, who is currently facing court proceedings over allegations related to public office conduct and has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Details surrounding the exact cause of her death have not been officially disclosed as of the time of filing this report.
