The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr celebration, signaling the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who congratulated Muslim faithful across the country on the successful completion of the fasting period.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Federal Government, the minister urged Muslims to sustain the spiritual and moral lessons observed during Ramadan. He highlighted values such as love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice as essential to fostering national unity.

Tunji-Ojo called on Nigerians across religious and ethnic lines to use the festive period to pray for peace, unity, and continued progress in the country. He stressed that collective responsibility remains vital to ensuring stability and development.

The minister also encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend acts of kindness to the less privileged, reflecting the spirit of Eid.

Eid-ul-Fitr is one of the most significant celebrations in the Islamic calendar, observed by millions of Muslims in Nigeria and around the world. The government’s declaration of public holidays underscores its commitment to promoting religious harmony and peaceful coexistence as the nation joins in the festivities.
