MPG seeks Nwajiuba entry into 2027 presidential race

The Movement for Progressive Governance (MPG) has called on Emeka Nwajiuba, a former minister under the administration of Muhammadu Buhari, to join the 2027 presidential race.

The group made the appeal following a strategic consultative meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday. In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting and made available to journalists, MPG said Nwajiuba possesses the qualities required to provide impactful and transparent leadership at what it described as a critical period in Nigeria’s history.

According to the statement, the former minister meets the criteria for credible leadership, citing his “youth, vigour and vision” as well as his integrity and understanding of Nigeria’s challenges. The group said it believes he has both the competence and the ideas needed to address the country’s pressing issues.

MPG directed its members nationwide to begin what it termed “serious underground mobilisation” aimed at persuading Nwajiuba to formally declare his interest in the 2027 presidential contest.

The group also commended Nwajiuba for sponsoring a three-day medical outreach programme held at the national headquarters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja. The outreach provided free medical check-ups and consultations, with doctors and other health professionals attending to individuals with various medical conditions and offering advice on preventive care.

Describing the initiative as “rare and a unique innovation” in national politics, MPG said the outreach demonstrated Nwajiuba’s commitment to the welfare of Nigerians beyond partisan considerations.

The communiqué was signed by the group’s National Convener, Alhaji Muhammed Mubarak, and its Secretary, Hon. Emeka Nwanko. The group pledged to work towards what it called “quality leadership” for Nigeria, expressing confidence that Nwajiuba could offer such leadership if elected president.

It further directed its zonal and state structures to intensify awareness efforts nationwide, describing the former minister’s potential candidacy as “a vista of new hope on the horizon.”
