The late Ogidi President General, Ikwuka Okoye.

Anambra State was thrown into shock on Friday evening following the killing of the President-General of Ogidi Community, Chief Ikwuka Okoye, and two other persons in what police suspect is a fallout of cult-related gang violence.

The incident occurred on Friday, February 6, 2026, at the School Field in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement by the Anambra State Police Command, the killings are allegedly connected to the recent arrest and subsequent killing of a notorious cult figure popularly known in Ogidi and its environs as “Emma Amasco.”

Police sources disclosed that one of the deceased, aside from the community leader, was believed to be a cult hitman, while the identity of the third victim was yet to be officially confirmed as of press time.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said detectives immediately took over the scene and commenced intensive investigations following reports of the incident on Friday night.

He noted that investigators are currently working with eyewitnesses and available intelligence to identify and apprehend those responsible for the killings.

“The Command has intensified efforts to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice,” Ikenga said, urging residents to remain calm and cooperate with the police as investigations continue.

He assured the public that further updates would be communicated in due course.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses described the late Emma Amasco as a well-known figure in the area and an alleged lead hitman for a deadly cult group operating within Ogidi.

They also alleged that the cult group had been responsible for the killing of the President-General, raising fears of possible reprisal attacks and an escalation of gang-related violence in the community.

Security agencies have since increased vigilance in the area amid concerns over potential retaliatory clashes.
