The Locust Invasion and 2027 Election

Must read

By Pastor Bosun Emmanuel & Prof. Kontein Trinya

“That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten.” (Joel 1:4).

As Nigeria approaches another election cycle in 2027, all things being equal, it is prudent to review the performance of government. It is not a secret that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is determined to return to power in 2027. In fact, since the Tinubu administration came into office in 2023, it has concentrated attention on 2027 re-election. While it is the right of any citizen to aspire to the office of President of the country, the matter of qualification should not be ignored. In this prayer call, the credential of the APC and that of President Tinubu to seek re-election shall be examined for prayer purposes. A political party may be qualified for re-election while its candidate may not be. Conversely, a candidate may be good while the party may be bad. There is still the extreme scenario in which both the candidate and the political party are facing the same direction.

The All Progressives Congress made its debut in politics and power in 2015. Since then, it has left no one in doubt that it is the exact opposite of what anyone can call a “blessing” or an “asset”. For the sake of decency, the APC can be described as a national liability. What is unbelievable is that it is determined to be re-elected into office in 2027. This political party has an entitlement mentality, suggesting that it deserves to be in power irrespective of its performance. No institution has wreaked as much havoc on Nigeria as the All Progressives Congress. This prayer call shall examine a few factors to assess the performance of the APC in government since 2015, to enable Nigerians arrive at a logical conclusion on the qualification of the APC to seek re-election in Nigeria. The parameters for measuring the performance of APC in the past eleven years are:

1. Corruption
2. Standard of living
3. Security

To aid the assessment of the APC, literature in the public domain shall be utilized. Between May 2015 and January 2026, a period of eleven years, the following cases of mind-boggling corruption have been recorded against the APC:

1. “As we speak, the Nigerian Senate is asking NNPC to account for the sum of N210 trillion it failed to remit to the federation account. Whoever thinks anything tangible would come out of the investigation must be living in a fools’ paradise.” The Guardian https://guardian.ng/opinion/letters/nnpc-and-unremitted-billions-of-dollars/

2. “Four years after the submission of a forensic audit report detailing the alleged misappropriation of over N6 trillion in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, the document remains shrouded in secrecy. No one has been held accountable, thousands of projects remain abandoned, and the suffering of Niger Delta communities continues.” Vanguard, July 2025, https://www.vanguardngr.com/2025/07/how-trillions-vanished-serap-tackles-fg-over-nddc-nnpcl-31-mdas/

3. The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is indisputably a recent controversial project in Nigeria since it was announced by the Minister of Works, Engr Dave Umahi. Umahi disclosed that the 700 km Lagos-Calabar coastal road project will be constructed for N15 trillion, as a kilometre of the road will cost N4 billion. Vanguard https://www.vanguardngr.com/2024/05/top-3-coastal-highways-in-the-world-and-their-costs/#google_vignette

4. Fake Nigeria Air – N85.2 billion. https://www.thecable.ng/reps-panel-asks-fg-to-suspend-nigeria-air-operation-says-its-a-fraud/

5. A news report of 30th November 2025 blazed this question: “How Did Tinubu Spend ₦17.5 Trillion on ‘Pipeline Security’? — More Than 12 Years of Fuel Subsidy”. According to the news report, the sum of N17.5 trillion represents twelve years of fuel subsidy. The APC-led government withdrew fuel subsidy and plunged millions of Nigerians into poverty and penury, while simultaneously it spent the equivalent of twelve years of subsidy payment on “pipeline security and related costs” in one year. The government is yet to respond and clear this allegation. https://journalist101.com/2025/11/30/how-did-tinubu-spend-%e2%82%a617-5-trillion-on-pipeline-security-more-than-12-years-of-fuel-subsidy/

6. “I am told that there are a lot of very senior people from PDP who have decided to join forces with President Buhari to take the broom to sweep away PDP and to continue to ensure that APC continues to preside all over Nigeria. We have quite a number of other leaders who have come … in fact, once you have joined APC, all your sins are forgiven.” Adams Oshiomhole https://spotlightafricamedia.com/politicians-whose-corruption-cases-were-suspended-after-moving-to-apc/

A political party under whose watch these and many more corruption cases are recorded, wants to return to power? The question any reasonable human being should ask is, “To come and do what?”

The next review would be on the standard of living of Nigerians pre-APC and under APC. In this section, five items shall be examined: the cost of fuel, Naira exchange rate, flight ticket from Lagos to Abuja, the rent of an average three-bedroom flat in Lagos, and the cost of a loaf of bread.

• Fuel in 2014 was N97 per litre while in 2026, under APC, it is N800 (average) per litre.
• The Naira exchange rate was N160 to $1 in 2014 while it is N1,550 in 2026 under APC.
• A one-way ticket from Lagos to Abuja in 2014 was N22,000 while in 2026, it is N185,000 under the APC.
• Per annum rent of a three-bedroom flat in Lagos in 2014 was N1.3 million while in 2026, it is N3.5 million under the APC. In some areas, it is as high as N34 million per annum.
• A loaf of bread in 2014 was N250 while in 2026 under the APC, it is N1,500.

Meanwhile, the minimum wage is N70,000, which some states are still struggling to pay.

The third parameter for assessing the performance of the APC, is security. A headline screamed in November 2025, “Data: Death defines Tinubu’s two years in power”. The number of people killed during the eight years of Buhari’s administration was put at 63,111, according to the Nigerian Security Tracker. The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) published a report that, between May 2023 and April 2024, which is the first year of Tinubu’s presidency, 614,937 Nigerians were killed. The implication is that, ten times the number of people killed in Buhari’s eight years were killed in one year of Tinubu’s administration. https://www.withinnigeria.com/2025/07/11/data-death-defines-tinubus-two-years-in-power/

In the same report, NBS stated that Nigerians paid N2.2 trillion as ransom to kidnappers in the first year of Tinubu, (May 2023 to April 2024) while 2.2 million Nigerians were kidnapped within the same period. https://guardian.ng/news/%E2%82%A62-2tr-paid-as-ransom-in-12-months-northwest-led-with-%E2%82%A61-2tr-nbs/

It was pointed out in an earlier prayer call that the APC, which today is an amalgam of strange bedfellows of politicians from other parties, like the PDP, LP and others, has failed the yardstick for good governance, according to Section 14(2)b of the Constitution, which states that “the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.” If a political party cannot guarantee the security and welfare of the citizens, on what basis should it seek re-election?

The most appalling part of this national disaster is that APC is the preferred political party of most of the prominent Church leaders in the country. Not only did Church leaders aid the emergence of APC in 2025, but they also enabled it to return to power in 2019 and 2023. From their body language, they are poised to support its come back in 2027.

The National Christian Elders Forum (NCEF), in a paper it released in December 2025, advised President Tinubu to give Nigeria a new constitution as his legacy to the country. It is not clear if the message of the Elders was understood. If it was understood, the president should be planning a new constitution for Nigeria. The implication, therefore, is that President Tinubu is determined to return to power in 2027 notwithstanding his performance and that of his party, as enumerated above.

This is where the rubber meets the road. What should Nigerians do? Most of the traditional and the religious leaders who should demand accountability from the government have pitched their tents in the camp of those who grease their elbows. Consequently, the people are left to fend for themselves. At this point, Nigerians can only be advised to meet as groups and fashion out non-violent resistance movements to prevent the locusts from invading their land again. Since 2015, there has been an invasion of locusts in the land. The locusts have devoured Nigeria and stripped it bare. In addition to prayers for God to send a west wind to blow the locusts out of the land and cast them into the deep sea (Ex. 10:19), massive mobilization should commence, based on accurate information that if APC should remain in power for the next 1,000 years, it will sadly continue to do what it has done in the past eleven years. The APC can never change.

In the meantime, Christians should continue to pray that God, in His mercy, will deliver Nigeria from these devourers. May the west wind blowing from the USA, blow the locusts out of this land.

Also, may God send His fiery judgment upon Nigeria to teach the country righteousness, while at the same time, nullify, with the blood of Jesus, every satanic covenant and sacrifice sustaining evil people in power in Nigeria. Amen.
