The Federal Government has declared Thursday, December 25, and Friday, December 26, 2025, as well as Thursday, January 1, 2026, as public holidays to mark Christmas, Boxing Day, and the New Year celebrations.
The declaration was announced in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
According to the statement, the Minister urged Nigerians to reflect on the core values associated with the Christmas season, including love, peace, humility, and sacrifice, as exemplified by the birth of Jesus Christ.
Tunji-Ojo also called on citizens, irrespective of religious or ethnic backgrounds, to use the festive period to pray for peace, improved security, and national development.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the country and encouraged Nigerians to celebrate responsibly while supporting efforts aimed at fostering unity and progress.
The Minister concluded by wishing Nigerians a peaceful Christmas celebration and a prosperous New Year.
