YENAGOA — Senator Lawrence Oborawharievwo Ewhrudjakpo, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, has died at the age of 60 after collapsing in his office in Government House, Yenagoa, sources confirmed on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
According to eyewitness accounts, Ewhrudjakpo suddenly slumped while attending to official duties in the early afternoon, causing immediate panic among aides and staff. He was rushed in an official vehicle to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, where medical teams worked to stabilise him.
Hospital sources later confirmed that despite frantic efforts by doctors in the emergency unit and Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Ewhrudjakpo could not be revived. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the facility.
Efforts to reach his media aide, Doubara Atasi, for further confirmation were unsuccessful, though state officials and senior aides have been seen arriving at the hospital amid heightened security presence.
Ewhrudjakpo’s sudden death has sent shock waves across Bayelsa and the wider political community, with residents in the state capital expressing grief over the loss of a long-serving public official.
Born on September 5, 1965, Ewhrudjakpo had served as Bayelsa’s deputy governor since February 2020, after a distinguished career in public service that included representing Bayelsa West in the Senate.
