And the winner is Solution, sorry, Soludo as he is re-elected Governor of Anambra in sweeping victory

Must read

In a conclusive endorsement of his leadership, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has been re-elected as Governor of Anambra State. The result of the election held on Saturday, 8 November 2025, was officially announced on Sunday, 9 November by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returning officer, Professor Edoba Omoregie.

Soludo polled 422,664 votes, far ahead of his nearest rival. His closest challenger, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured 99,445 votes.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu described the re-election of Soludo of Anambra State for a second term as a testament to his visionary leadership and the remarkable progress the state has made under his guidance. While congratulating Governor Soludo, the President assured him of the Federal Government’s unwavering support and expressed optimism about continued collaboration between Anambra and the federal administration for the good of the people

Third place went to Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) with 37,753 votes.

The total number of registered voters in the state was 2,788,864. Accredited voters: 598,229. Total votes cast: 595,298, of which 584,054 were valid, and 11,244 rejected.

Notably, Soludo won in all 21 local government areas (LGAs) of Anambra State — a clean sweep.

According to INEC, incidents in some wards in Anambra West, Anaocha, Awka South and Onitsha South LGAs led to cancellation of about 10,481 votes. However, this number did not affect the outcome because Soludo’s margin was significantly higher.

The scale of the win underscores APGA’s entrenched position in Anambra politics and the confidence of the electorate in Soludo’s first term (2021-2025). By sweeping every LGA, Soludo sends a strong signal of broad-based support across urban, semi-urban and rural areas of the state.

For the opposition, the result is a major setback. Despite contesting from APC, YPP and other smaller parties, no challenger came close to denting Soludo’s dominance.

In April 2025, Soludo secured his party’s nomination unopposed — he was the only aspirant and received overwhelming support from delegates across all 21 LGAs.

In March earlier this year, he had publicly expressed confidence that he would be re-elected, stating he hadn’t seen a worthy challenger.

His campaign was buoyed by endorsement events where various ethnic groups in Anambra publicly backed his re-election bid, reflecting his outreach beyond native political constituencies.

Conduct of election

Observers noted that voting across Anambra was largely peaceful, with early turn-out especially in major urban centres such as Awka, Onitsha and Nnewi. The use of BVAS (biometric voter accreditation and smart card readers) was reportedly effective and polling units opened as scheduled.

With a fresh mandate secured until 2029, Soludo can now begin his second term with fewer political distractions and stronger legitimacy. Key questions now include:

How he will translate the electoral victory into policy delivery — particularly in infrastructure, education, health and economic revival.

The 2025 governorship election in Anambra marks a decisive affirmation of the incumbent’s mandate. With all 21 LGAs delivering for Soludo, the political terrain in the state remains evidently tilted in favour of APGA. For voters, the verdict gives them a clear signal of expectations: the re-elected governor must deliver on promises and uphold the confidence placed in him.

Meanwhile President Tinubu noted that the victory of the opposition All Grand Progressives Alliance (APGA) in the election once again demonstrated the vitality of Nigeria’s political system, emphasizing that victory for any progressive and hardworking leader cannot be easily denied. In a statement he personally signed, the President commended Soludo’s intellectual approach to governance, describing him as a leader who has shown that knowledge is indeed power and that academic principles can effectively serve the people through accountability, transparency, and prudent management.

The President further observed that Governor Soludo’s overwhelming victory at the polls has made him the third governor in Anambra State’s political history to secure a second term in office. He extended congratulations to the people of Anambra State, the security agencies, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for ensuring a peaceful and credible election process.

Recalling his visit to Anambra in May, President Tinubu said he had inaugurated several projects executed by the Soludo administration and was deeply impressed by the thoughtfulness and innovation behind them. He praised Soludo for bringing discipline, brilliance, and a fresh perspective to governance, adding that under his leadership, Anambra is truly living up to its motto as the “Light of the Nation.”

President Tinubu urged Governor Soludo to be magnanimous in victory and to seek the cooperation of his opponents for the continued progress of the state. He also commended the new INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, and his team for conducting what observers described as a credible election. The President charged the commission to sustain and improve on its performance in future elections to further strengthen Nigeria’s democratic and electoral systems.
