After the expiration of a two-week ultimatum issued to the Federal Government, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced plans to commence a two-week nationwide warning strike.
The decision, according to ASUU, follows extensive consultations held across university campuses nationwide. In a memo addressed to all its branches, the union confirmed that the warning strike will begin on Monday, October 13, 2025.
At the heart of ASUU’s grievances is the Federal Government’s failure to address longstanding issues, including the signing and implementation of the renegotiated 2009 ASUU-FGN Agreement.
The memo, signed by ASUU National President Prof. Chris Piwuna, expressed deep disappointment over what the union described as the government’s continued silence and inaction.
Prof. Piwuna emphasized that the warning strike is a last-resort measure aimed at compelling the government to honor its commitments and avert a complete collapse of the country’s public university system.
