The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, on Saturday confirmed multiple sightings of crescent moon, marking the end of Ramadan in Nigeria.
He subsequently confirmed that Eid-el-Fitr would be observed on Sunday, March 30, 2025.
“With the sighting of the moon, Sunday, March 30, 2025, will be the 1st of Shawwal 1446 AH, marking the day for the Eid-el-Fitr celebration,” the Sultan, who is also the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, stated.
The latest announcement tallied with the sighting the crescent of Shawwal, the Saudi authorities announced that that Eid al-Fitr would be held on Sunday, March 30, 2025, to mark the beginning of the new Islamic month.
“The crescent moon for the month of Shawwal 1446 was sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Eid Al Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday, March 30, 2025,” an official statement said.
There was an initial confusion after the Nigeria Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) said the crescent had not been spotted in Nigeria, fuelling fears of an extra day of fasting in Nigeria.
