‘Baby factory’ operator meets Waterloo in Akwa Ibom, police rescues pregnant women, infants

A woman who operates an illegal maternity home in Akwa Ibom State has met her Waterloo as the police command has effected her arrest in Usung Atiat, Abak Local Government Area of the state.

The police also alleged her involvement in child trafficking, unlawful medical practice, and impersonation.

Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John said in a statement that acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Command raided the premises and arrested one Patience Ene Jimmy who was found harbouring seven pregnant women and five infants aged between two weeks and one year.

The Command revealed that all of them hail from different parts of Akwa Ibom State.

According to the PPRO further search led to the recovery of various medical supplies, including syringes, drip lines, herbs, and immunization records, for which the suspect had no legal authorization.

“The rescued women and children have been placed under protective care, while investigations are ongoing to uncover other collaborators and ensure justice is served”, the police affirmed in the statement.

It further explained that CP Baba Mohammed Azare, the Commissioner of Police of the state has reiterated the Command’s commitment to dismantling illegal activities endangering vulnerable individuals.

The CP enjoins residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

He disclosed that for credible information, the public is encouraged to contact the Command.
