In a voice vote which made it difficult to tell whether the required number of 240 members of the House of Representatives technically approved President Bola Tinubu’s of emergency rule in Rivers State, the lower House of the National Assembly on Thursday approved the emergency rule.
All eyes are now on the Upper Legislative Chamber to see if the emergency rule will have the backing of 72 senators.
The approval extended to the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and all elected members of the state assembly for six months in the first instance.
The Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, presided over what many in the House and outside it are now grumbling over.
