Police trails fleeing cultists, recovers weapons in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested some cultists with arms and ammunition in Akwa Ibom state.

Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Timfon John revealed in an official statement.

The PPRO explained that the hoodlums were arrested in a hideout in the state.

The police swooped on the undesirable elements following intelligence reports given to the Command.

According to the statement, the Akwa Ibom police command demonstrated its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property of citizens in Akwa Ibom.

It said, “Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Command raided a suspected cultist hideout at Ikot Efiong Village in Ukanafun Local Government Area on the evening of March 6, 2025.

On sighting the operatives, the hoodlums fled, abandoning one locally made pistol and two live cartridges, which were recovered at the scene.”

The PPRO pointed out that while no arrests were made during the operation, investigations are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.

The spokesperson also disclosed that arising from the outcome, the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare has assured residents that the Command remains resolute in its fight against crime and will not relent in its efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.

The CP charge the public to continue providing useful information to the police, as community support remains vital in sustaining the peace and security currently enjoyed in the state.
