Were Nigerians hunted down and executed as Gov Sanwo-Olu suspends media aide over comments on 2020 #EndSARS protest?

Must read

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu may have summarily suspended his Senior Special Assistant on Print Media, Mr. Wale Ajetunmobi; but was it true that some participants in the #EndSARS protest in 2020 were hunted down and executed as he claimed in his now deleted post on social media.

This is the nagging question in the public domain and social media as many recall there were allegations in that direction in the months after the protests which were allegedly brutally put down by security forces at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos.

Wale Ajetunmobi.

Ajetunmobi’s suspension follows his post  via his official X account recently.

He had claimed arsonists, who torched the Television Continental (TVC) head office in Lagos during the #EndSARS protest in 2020, were “hunted and executed”.

The tweet reads, “The full story of people who burnt down TVC in 2020 will be told one day, with gory clips and images. One thing to note: the majority of them have been hunted down and executed.

“One of them, a young boy trading in cooking gas around Ketu, was found with an AK-47 at the site. Even his neighbours were shocked. But the full gist is better saved for later.”

“The Governor wishes to state categorically that his administration frowns at any form of extra judicial punishment and will not be a part of any such action.

Said a statement announcing the suspension of the media:
“That is not who we are. That is not our way.” The State Government Ajetunmobi’s posts were a misrepresentation of facts.

The Lagos State Judicial Panel on #EndSARS and police brutality indicted Governor Sanwo-Olu in the brutal intervention of the Nigerian Army at the tollgate on October 20.

The State government had made strenuous efforts to remove the negative tags in the the report of the panel that indicted its head and the army.
