Anambra: Four notorious cultists killed in gang war as Police foil kidnap attempt of foreigner

The officers of the Anambra State Police Command have foiled an attempt by a gang of criminals to abduct a foreign national.

The kidnap attempt, according to a statement by the spokesman of the command, Superintendent of Police (SP) Tochukwu Ikenga, occurred at Ogbunka community in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

SP Ikenga disclosed that the victim was rescued after police operatives engaged the hoodlums in a gun battle that lasted several minutes.

The spokesman revealed that two officers sustained bullet wounds during the incident, and are now receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

The statement said, “In the morning of 6/10/2024, police operatives foiled the abduction of a foreigner by suspected armed secessionist members in Ogbunka village.

“The operatives courageously engaged the hoodlums in a gun battle and rescued the VIP. Unfortunately, during the gun duel, two police officers were injured by gunfire. They are in a stable condition and are currently receiving treatment in hospital.

“Meanwhile, operations are ongoing in the area to apprehend the armed men.”

Also, four alleged notorious cultists have been gunned downed in a rival cult clash iin Umuka Nawfia community in Njikoka Local Government Council area of Anambra State.

The clash, according to an eye-witnesses, broke out Sunday afternoon and involved victims that were known for their nefarious activities in the area.

The Anambra State Police command spokesperson, SP Ikenga Tockuwu, confirmed the incident, adding that O
operations were ongoing in the area for the arrest of the armed men.

He said Police operatives, upon arriving at the scene, found four lifeless bodies of young men with suspected multiple gunshot injuries lying on the road.

The police spokesperson noted that the victims were taken to hospital where the doctor on duty confirmed them dead.
Their remains identified as Ebuka Nwaonkwube Ekenta, Nnatuanya Junior (aka Starboy) of Mmimi village, Nawfia;  Aniemena (aka Osama) of Umuariam Village and one Ahmed Auwal.

In another development,  the Police spokesperson disclosed that a girl’s lifeless body was found in a bush at Omasi village on 6/10/2024 by 4:25 p.m. She was identified as one Chinasa Adigwe from Umueje village.

He said her mutilated body was recovered, and deposited in a morgue.

He said that the state’s police commissioner, Nnaghe Obono Itam, while condoling with the family, friends and community of the deceased stated that the Police will do everything possible to ensure that those behind the barbaric act are arrested and brought to justice.
