The Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado-Bayero, has asked the Nigeria’s first lady, Oluremi Tinubu, to personally convey the message of his palace to her husband, President Bola Tinubu, that Nigerians are hungry, and he should take measures to ameliorate the economic hardship.
The emir stated this when the first lady paid him a courtesy call, as part of her visit to commission a faculty building at Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, MAAUN, in Kano on Monday.
According Mr Bayero, though there are certain formal means to communicate to the president, her way of passing the message is the best and surest.
The emir noted that the issue of economic challenges did not start from Mr Tinubu’s government but the situation needs his administration’s urgent attention.
On insecurity, the emir, the emir said, “Though the issue of insecurity has long been lingering in the country, we use this opportunity to call on Mr President to double efforts to tackle it,” he said.
He further stated that the emirate had received series of complaints and outcries about much-talked relocation of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN and Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, from Abuja to Lagos.
“We are receiving series of messages from our people, one of such messages is the much-talked about relocation of CBN and FAAN to Lagos.
“I think the government should come out clean on this matter and talk to Nigerians in the languages they would understand.
“Do more on enlightening Nigerians on this issue. I, for one, cannot tell the actual intentions of the government. We should be made to actually understand why the relocation of the CBN and FAAN offices now to Lagos,” the emir added.
First Lady Remi Tinubu urged Nigerians to bear with the present administration over the current economic challenges, assuring that the government means well to the country.
According to Mrs Tinubu, with the ongoing economic reforms and people-oriented policies, she is optimistic that things would get better.
She appreciated the warm reception accorded her by the state government, expressing delight about the cheers she received from the school children who assembled by the roadside waving at her.
