Killing of Yoruba Obas: It’s time to awaken

Must read

By Oluwole Akanbi

Ask yourself, “can an emir in the core north of Nigeria be killed in cold blood by southerners and the whole of Nigeria will not be in flames?” Your guess is as good as mine.

How on earth can certain bandits kill two kings in Yoruba land and all we are doing is just to send condolence messages and saying hummmm, hummmm, ooooohhh, eeeyya etc.

Is this not the time that the Yoruba people should join their voices together irrespective of religious, professional, political or sub-ethnic backgrounds and demand for state police in each of the states in South Western Nigeria?

How long shall we keep waiting for these murderous elements to be intimidating and harassing us? It is evident over the years that the weapon of the Northern Nigerians against the Southerners is mainly that of intimidation. They used it against the South East and we were watching, saying it doesn’t affect us. Now it has come upon us!!!

Don’t get me wrong please, I am not calling for indiscriminate carrying of arms by every person but rather a well co-ordinated approach to dealing with this menace. Why can’t the South West governors spearhead this push for state police?

When Nasir El Rufai decided to disobey Buhari over the ban on old naira notes and permitted people in Kaduna state to keep using the old notes, did Buhari arrest him? So, why can’t the South West governors, senators, Reps members, and State Assemblymen and women spearhead this move rather than making empty statements and press releases?

This present aggression of the Fulani bandits in Yoruba land cannot be contained by Amotekun as it is presently constituted. Amotekun cannot deal with it because they are using dane guns against wicked people carrying AK47 and pump action machine guns!!!!

Giving money and vehicles to the Nigeria police cannot deal with the problem either. The Nigeria police officers will divert the monies.

We need well-trained, sophisticated state police that can effectively fight off these marauders, arrest, and prosecute them within the states where they are committing these atrocities according to the laws of the respective states instead of taking them to the Nigeria Police who will eventually release them.

Therefore, it is time for every Yoruba man, woman, boys, and girls to go and challenge their governors, senators, kings, Reps members, SHA members, women leaders, men leaders, youth leaders, pastors, imams, chiefs, and other well-meaning individuals to collectively sing the chorus to Tinubu – “All we are saying, give us state police and implement true federalism”

This chorus must continue until Tinubu yields to these demands. Enough is Enough!
