The Oyo State government is yet to give reason for the massive explosion that rocked parts of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital On Tuesday night.
There are different wild speculations as to the source of the explosion that brought down a building, violently shook a school hostel, with students sent to a hospital, according to a source.
Some say it was a bomb, others say it was an earth tremor that led to an explosion. Others query a gas station explosion, among many other speculations and suggestions.
But the Oyo State government, apparently playing safe until preliminary investigations are conducted, said in a statement: Residents of Ibadan and immediate environ experienced an uncommon explosion about 8pm this evening.
“There are various interpretations of the incident but it is important for us to state categorically that the state government has taken over and in the full control of the unfortunate occurrence in order to mitigate the incident.
“All security service commanders including para military commanders and Fire Operatives have been deployed by the governor to Reign in the spillover from the explosion.
“His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde therefore implores citizens to calm down and be rest assured that their interests are being looked after.’
