,
“DSS confirms release of former EFCC chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, a few hours ago (today 25th October, 2023),” Peter Afunanya, DSS Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications disclosed in a terse statement via X.
Bawa was suspended indefinitely by President Bola Tinubu, shortly after which he allegedly resigned, paving way for the for the appointment of Mr. Ola Olukoyede.
There were reports of Bawa returning over N500 million to the Federal Government, though details were sketchy; but there is no mention of any case being instituted against him for any financial malfeasance.
A statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation said the suspension was to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office.
The statement said the suspension followed weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against the former EFCC boss.
