Why Buhari moved from Daura to a more distant place -Aide

Must read

An inkling as to why former President Muhammadu Buhari moved from his country home farther afield, perhaps London, has emerged. His torrent of visitors in Daura, Kastina State is burdensome, his aide has said.

Former Presidential Spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, said in a statement which described as fake, reports the former President asked his successor, President Bola Tinubu not to investigate his ex-officials: He chose to go home in Daura hoping to find the type of quiet he wished for himself but realizing that this was not the case, visitors trooping in morning, day and night, he moved out to a more distant place.

“It remains his wish that he be allowed to have his needed rest, and for the Tinubu administration to have the right atmosphere to work on the realisation of the promises they made”.

Recall that on departing power, Buhari said he was going back to his hometown of Daura to rest, adding that if he was troubled, he would go to Niger Republic, which would willing to protect him.

However, early this week, a photograph emerged showing him and his successor after a private meeting, leading a flurry of comments on social media, most of it uncomplimentary.

Tinubu had travelled to Paris, France, for a climate conference, but detoured to London, where he is believed to have met his predecessor. Incidentally, speculations began flying around that he met Buhari who allegedly pleaded with him not to investigate his former aides.

On Buhari’s request to Tinubu, Shehu said that the report on social media was “fake news”.

“If social media is to be believed, former President Muhammadu Buhari is requesting his successor, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to investigate some former officials of his government.

“It is fake, let us not discuss it or give it energy or air of publicity. This is fake news, and nothing more”, Shehu said.

Shehu in his statement added, “Thankfully, there was no one other than the two leaders in the room in which they met, so no one was there to report their conversation.”

“As much as possible, the former President wishes to remain outside the spotlight so as not to distract the new administration.”
