Though the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is yet to speak up on it, there is panic over a proposed price list for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS, also known as petrol) for all NNPC filling stations.

Lagos is to sell for N480, while far end cities, like Maiduguri in Borno State and Damaturu in Yobe are billed to sell for N550. But the memo fails a cursory intergrity test because it advises that the new price will run from Wednesday, 31st May, 2023. The removal of subsidy as attested to by President Bola Tinubu, in a tweet, is meant to commence after the end of June.

Spokesman for the NNPC, Mr. Mohammed Garbadeen, could not be reached on his line on Wednesday for comments as to the veracity of the internal memo, but the memo reads:

“DEAR ALL. Following Management approval of the Upward review of NNPC PMS pump price as in below table for Mega/Standard/Leased Stations, Please find below schedules for the RMSs and Wayne to handle. Please implement meter change as approved effective today 31st May 2023. Wayne is to attend to all locations as relates to their area of coverage in our network.”

Below is the alleged proposed price list:
