Citing lack of merit and noting that the request has no relevance to the petitions before it, the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) on Monday threw out the request for a live media transmission of its proceedings.
The PEPC also noted that the request by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar; and Labour Party (LP) candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, is not rooted in any of Nigeria’s laws.
Both men and their partied had through their legal counsels sought the PEPC to allow for live transmission of the proceedings to ensure transparency and allow interested Nigerians to follow up.
The request was opposed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Many had suspected the request was going to fail from last Saturday when the PEPC stopped those coming to court from doing so with phones, laptops or any other recording gadgets.
Tinubu had opposed the application for a live broadcast of the proceedings of the election petition, describing it as an abuse of court process.
