Updated: LP, Obi to call 50 witnesses, 100 for Atiku, PDP in petition; 25 for APC, Tinubu; 5 for INEC in presidential election suit

The Labour Party (LP) and its Presidential Candidate Mr Peter Obi are to call 50 witnesses to testify for them at Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, (PEPT).

Counsel to the petitioners, Prof. Awa Kalu (SAN) said on Saturday in Abuja at the resumed proceedings of the pre-hearing phase: “We still have a few hiccups at the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) because of the order of this court made on March 8, directing the commission to allow us carry out forensic investigation of BVAs which we have not been able to do.”

He added that his clients would require seven weeks within which to present their petition in court.

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) say they will present no fewer than 100 witnesses to testify for them in their petition challenging the election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu before the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC).

Their lawyer, Chief Chris Uche (SAN) disclosed this on Saturday in Abuja at the resumption of proceedings before the court.

Uche said the aniticipated 100 witnesses will include those already listed before the court and those to be subpoenaed.

Lawyer to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Abubakar Mahmud SAN said his client who conducted the disputed election plans to call five witnesses to defend the poll.

The President-elect, Bola Tinubu on his part, is to call 39 witnesses to defend his challenged victory in addition to those to be subpoenaed.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) which was jointly declared as winner of the February 25 presidential alongside Tinubu announced it’s intention to call 25 witnesses to establish the victory in addition to those to be subpoenaed.
