Nigeria gets first female Accountant-General in nearly 63 years

Almost 63 years after independence, Nigeria has her first female Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF). She is 58 years old Dr. Mrs. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, who appointment was ratified by President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday.

The appointment was confirmed in a circular with reference number OHCSF/COMMS/PR/2023/24, dated Friday, May 19, 2023 signed by the spokesman of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mohammed Abdullahi Ahmed in Abuja.

In the circular, signed on behalf of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi Esan (CFR), it was clearly stated that Madein’s appointment was approved by Buhari.

According to Esan, her appointment was sequel to  the successful conduct of a selection process to fill the existing vacancy, adding that the appointment takes effect from Thursday, May 18, 2023,  and she is to assume duty immediately.

Madein was born on March 7, 1965 in Iperu Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area (LGA) of Ogun State.

Until her new appointment, she was the Director of Finance and Accounts in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, OHCSF.

She has a Ph.D. in Management Finance from Walden University, Minnesota, USA.
