(Video/Photos) Seun Kuti surrenders to Police, after IGP orders arrest

Keeping to his word to submit himself to the police authorities, Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, has turned himself in, and is now being questioned over a public altercation that led him to publicly slapping a policeman on duty.

A video of the assault was made and has been circulating on social media.

Lagos State Police Command spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that in the early hours of Monday, Seun, turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, in company with his lawyer and family representative.

“He has been placed under arrest in line with the law.

“The Command appreciates the public for their concern and assures that the ongoing investigation will be detailed, transparent, professionally pursued; and justice will be manifestly served for all parties involved.”

A video and photos of Seun in police custody is already trending on social media.

Recall that after the slapping incident, another video emerged with the son of the late afro-beat legend, Fela Anikulapo-kuti, boasting about his slapping prowess on policemen.

Following the latest incident, the Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba “ordered a speedy and full investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the assault and prosecution of the suspect accordingly.”

“IGP Usman Alkali Baba assures Nigerians that acts of contempt/disdain for symbols of authority will not be tolerated while offenders of such hideous crimes will be surely brought to book,” the spokesman for the Nigeria Police Force, Muyiwa Adejobi had said in a statement.
