“… Whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes”
(1Cor. 11:26)
*Man’s propensity to forget is amazing and ridiculous.* The scriptures are full of God’s warning to Israel on this.
“Beware that you do not forget the LORD your God … when you have eaten and are full, and have built beautiful houses and dwell in them…” (Deut. 8:10-14)
*They still forgot.* “Often they provoked and grieved Him …They did not remember… His signs in Egypt… ”
(Ps. 78:40-57)
*The Disciples often forgot Jesus’ Mission on earth, inspite of His teachings*. It would take a meal of bread for them to remember.
(Luke 24:31,46 )
*The Communion, like the passover, was to serve us as a reminder* of His redeeming sacrifice, as well as our mandate to proclaim The Gospel.
*Whenever we approach the communion table therefore, we must remember both* – our redemption and His Commission to proclaim the Gospel.
