Sighs of relief swept through the political landscape of the tension-soaked and populous Kano State, following the gracious move of the Deputy Governor and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, who did the unexpected and congratulated the Kano State Governor-elect, Abba Kabir Yusuf, of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
The state has been on edge over the declaration of Yusuf as winner of the gubernatorial election, but Gamuwa doused the tension on Wednesday in a short recorded audio.
His words in the recording: “You are all aware that we took our complaints to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on various problems on the recently concluded guber election in Kano and we requested INEC review results of some units, and further requested a rerun of election in some of these problematic units.
“But despite our complaints, today 29th March, INEC went ahead to present Certificate of Return to the announced winner, Abba Kabir Yusuf of the NNPP. On this note, we wish to revert to our earlier promises of accepting Allah’s will on this election.
“Therefore, I wish Abba Kabir the very best in governance and I pray he finds the will to be fair and objective to all, and may Allah give us the patience to bear this. God Bless Kano state and God bless Nigeria”, he concluded.
While receiving his certificate of return as governor-elect, Yusuf had sought a hand of fellowship from other contestants in the March 18 guber election in administering the state.
Hiss election, he said is a “no victor, no vanquished.”
“We heard Gawuna telling the media before the results was announced that if he does not emerge winner, he will accept the decision as the will of Allah. So we are calling on him to come out now and address the people to confirm this as the will of Allah”, he added.
