An angry Nigerian professor, simply identified as Gbenga, has filmed himself tearing his travelling passport provoking outrage among fellow citizens in the diaspora.
Said the professor in the attached video: “Good evening, fellow Nigerians. Having critically observed the way and manner the Nigerian election has been conducted so far, I have come to the conclusion that Nigeria can never be redeemed. As a result, I have decided not to be associated with anything called Nigeria. In order to buttress my assertion, I hereby destroy my Nigerian passport. Thank you, God bless.”
A fellow diaspora had asked the reaction of others on a WhatsApp platform. Below are three samples of the reaction:
A: Perhaps, he has dual citizenship status and a foreign passport to fall back on for his travels. I see the scenario in this video as a Nollywood act because I can’t see any nexus between Nigeria general elections outcomes and the decision he took to destroy his Nigeria passport which remains the property of the Federal Government of Nigeria. I think the Nigeria immigration Service should take him up on this rash behavior to destroy the Nigeria government property.
B: I think it’s not just the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), but all the federal government agencies (parastatals), including INEC) ought to work efficiently in apprehending unlawful behaviors fairly..
C: I think the Nigerian–born professor should go two steps further: drop his Nigerian name and reconfigure his DNA!
